Join Chris Leonard, Schenectady City Historian and author of Schenectady’s General Electric Realty Plot, on a walking tour of the historic GE Realty Plot neighborhood. Leonard will cover the dynamic events and unique cast of characters who have called “The Plot” their home. The tour includes stories and anecdotes about GE inventors and executives, Schenectady business and political leaders, entertainers, and other incomparable individuals, as well as the formation of the Plot and ongoing efforts to protect these stately homes. Some of the many luminaries covered include Charles P. Steinmetz, Irving Langmuir, Izetta Jewel Miller and Ernst Alexanderson.
Price: $20/person, which includes entry into one of the homes, and a 15-minute break with snacks on its large front porch.
Location: The tour meets at Steinmetz Memorial Park on Wendell Avenue next to the Unitarian Church (1221 Wendell Ave.). (Not Steinmetz Park on Rosa Road)
Parking: There is ample parking on Wendell Ave and surrounding streets. Please do not park in the Unitarian Church parking lot.
Time: Tours start at 10 AM sharp and last approximately 2 hours
Details: Tour groups are limited to 25 people on a first come first served basis, so purchase your tickets by clicking on one of the dates above or calling 518 225-2924 to reserve your spot. There are no physical tickets for the tour. You will be contacted shortly after your purchase tickets to verify your spot on the tour. Tours are held rain or shine.
Proceeds for the tour go to the Schenectady County Historical Society and the Office of the City Historian of Schenectady.

Schenectady and the Civil War

Join Schenectady City Historian on a guided tour of Vale Cemetery to learn about those who served the nation during the Civil War. We'll visit the graves of four generals, colonels, captains, soldiers and medical personal who served in NY infantry and cavalry regiments, as well as US regiments.
Tours start at 2 p.m. from the Caretaker's Cottage adjacent to the main entrance on State Street.
There is ample parking available and due to the size of the cemetery/park a shuttle bus is used.
